Tapy Ghai takes charge with two-shot lead at halfway stage

Tapy Ghai showed the power for the second straight day to take charge at the halfway stage of the 2022 Gujarat Open.

The Gurugram-based Ghai, who shot 6-under 66 in the first round, added another solid 5-under 67 in round two to grab a two-shot advantage heading into the weekend action at the Rs.40 Lakh prize money event being played at Kalhaar Blues & Greens, Ahmedabad.

Kapil Kumar of Delhi matched Ghai with a solid 5-under 67 to claim the second position, while the birthday boy, the young gun, Yuvraj Singh Sandhu (68-69), was placed third with two days total of seven-under 137.

The best round of the day belongs to Arjun Prasad, who carded a brilliant 7-under 65 to climb up the leaderboard from overnight tied-32 to tied fourth and share the spot with the Kolkata duo of Sunit Chowrasia and Shankar Das.

Two other players who joined them at 6-under were Ranjit Singh (70-68) and Yashas Chandra Ms (65-73).

Karandeep Kochhar, the overnight leader, played a disappointing game of golf on day two to slip from first to ted-9th.Kochhar mixed two birdies with three bogeys and one double bogey to lose the crown’s position after the midway stage of the first event of the 2022 PGTI season.

The cut was applied at five-over 149.Fifty-one professionals made the cut.

Pre-tournament favourite Udayan Mane had a dreary event, and with two days total of six-over 150, he missed the cut by one shot.

The other notable who missed the cut were Dhruv Sheoran, Mithun Perera, Mukesh Kumar, Harendra Gupta, Shivendra Singh Sisodia and Akshay Sharma.
