Indian trio struggles on challenging opening day at Ladies Italian Open

Indian trio of Tvesa Malik, Diksha Dagar, and Astha Madan endured a rough start amidst tough conditions at the Margara Golf Club on the first day of the Ladies Italian Open.

Diksha Dagar and Astha Madan, who are playing their first game of 2021, got off to a rough start with over-par scores, while Tvesa, who has already played at the opening event in South Africa last week, also shot an over par to sit outside top-50 after the first round.

The experienced Tvesa had four bogeys against two birdies in her 2-over par round.

Dagar, who was playing at even-par till the 13th hole, made a double bogey on the 14th, a bogey on the 17th, and a birdie on the 18th to finish her first round at two-over 74.

The third Indian playing at the event, Astha Madan, was way down at the leaderboard after carding a disappointing 5-over 77.

England’s Eleanor Givens and Malchirand Lucie of France carded a brilliant 6-under 66 to take the share of the lead after day one of the Ladies European Tour €200,000 prize money event.

It’s been seven years since the Tour last came to Italy, and all eyes will be on Piedmont to see who will come out on top.

England’s Florentyna Parker was crowned champion at Perugia Club when she clinched a one-shot victory seven years back.

This year’s tournament will be the 25th edition of the Ladies Italian Open, which first took place on the LET in 1987 when Laura Davies claimed victory.
