Anirban Lahiri opens with a dreary 77 in first round of the Charles Schwab Challenge

India’s Anirban Lahiri opened with a below-par seven-over 77 to make a disappointing start to his campaign at the Charles Schwab Challenge on Thursday.

Lahiri made one birdie, seven bogeys, and one double bogey in his opening round at the Colonial Golf Course to settle at tied-116th position after the end of round 1.

The 33-year-old has only made three cuts in his ten starts at the PGA Tour 2020-21 season, and after a disastrous first round at Charles Challenge, he will need a solid second round to make the cut to regain his confidence.

Jordan Spieth and Sergio Garcia both carded bogey-free seven-under-par 63s to share the two-stroke lead following the first round of the Charles Schwab Challenge.

The three-time major champion Spieth made three back-to-back birdies to end his day one campaign on a positive note and grab the lead.

Whereas the 2017 Masters winner Sergio Garcia smashed five birdies and an eagle that helped him climb atop the leaderboard to share the lead with Spieth.

Erik Compton and Jason Kokrak take the joint third sport after firing a spectacular 65.

The defending champion Collin Morikawa starts with a modest 69 to grab the T-24th position heading into the second round.

The 50-year-old Mickelson, who rewrote history four days back by becoming the oldest winner of a golf major, was ten strokes back after a struggling 73.
