Tvesa Malik starts with a modest 70, lies T-5th at Women's Open

Tvesa Malik posted an even-par 72 in the first round of South African Women’s Open to lie at a tied-5th position at the first event of this season’s LET schedule in Capetown, South Africa.

Tvesa, who had a good season in 2020, started her 2021 campaign on a positive note as well; she smashed three birdies and three bogeys in her modest round of 72 to stay inside top-5 at the of day one.

Hall Lydia of Welsh posted 2-under 70 to share the first-round lead with Pace Lee-Ann at the €200,000 prize money event.

South-African Nicole Garcia and Tandi Mccallam finished one shot back to settle at joint third position.

Johanna Gustavsson of Sweden, who was playing at 68 after nine holes, lost her control and played one double bogey, three bogeys, and a final-hole birdie to score 72 and share the tied-5th position with India’s Tvesa Malik.

The 25-year-old Tvesa, who won her last professional title two months back, left for Dubai just before the lockdown in India and then trained in the Middle East from where getting to Cape Town was easier.

The SA Women’s Open has good memories for Indian girls, as the 2019 edition produced an Indian winner in Diksha Dagar.
