Tiger Woods for Ryder Cup captain’s pick?

Tiger Woods is already a vice captain for the 2016 U.S. Ryder Cup team. But could he be a captain’s pick for Davis Love III’s squad instead?

Woods, 40, hasn’t played since last year’s Wyndham Championship because of his two back surgeries and has dropped to No. 726 in the official world golf rankings, but he did announce a planned return to the PGA Tour last Wednesday.

Woods is expected to return to action at the 2016 Safeway Open on Oct. 13-16.

Davis love revealed three of his four captain’s picks: Rickie Fowler, J.B. Holmes and Matt Kuchar. All three picks joined the press conference via Skype and were involved in the Q&A portion.  In the conference,  Kuchar raised many eyebrows when he said, “I heard maybe even Tiger Woods could potentially be a pick,” .

“It could strictly be a rumour,” Kuchar added. “But I mean, I know he’s playing Safeway. Imagine Tiger Woods being a playing captain, absolutely incredible. That last pick is going to be quite amazing. I don’t envy Davis’ position. So it’s a tough job. But gosh, imagine that, Tiger Woods playing for Team USA, being a captain, that would be incredible.”

Love then jumped in, telling Kuchar, jokingly, to not “give away our secrets.”

“You’re going to get a call from Coach (Bill) Belichick here in a minute,” Love told Kuchar.

Love will officially announce his final pick after the Tour Championship in two weeks. As for Woods being that selection, I guess we’ll have to “wait for it …”
