Chikkarangappa, Viraj Madappa best-placed Indians after round one of Mixed Cup

On a low scoring day at the Trust Golf Asian Trust Mixed Cup, India’s Chikkarangappa and Viraj Madappa emerged as the best-placed Indians after both carded a solid 3-under 69.

Chikkarangappa, a 15-time winner on the PGTI, started his journey at the mixed tournament with a par and two consecutive bogeys on the 2nd and 3rd but bounced back with five birdies to end his day at 3-under 69 to be placed tied-21.

The young gun Viraj, on the other hand, smashed four birdies against a single bogey to join Chikka at t- 21 place heading into round two.

Ratchanon Chantananuwat fired a flawless 9-under 63, including a spectacular eagle shot on the par- 5 sixth hole to share the opening-round lead with Finnish woman golfer Sanna Nuutinen at the Asian and Ladies European Tour co-sanctioned event.

The 3-time LET Access Tour winner Sanna had a brilliant opening round, in which she smashed ten birdies against one bogey to take the honours of ending the opening day as best-placed lady professional on the mixed event.

Phachara Khongwatmai of Thailand and Taiwan’s Hung Chien-Yao shared the tied-3rd spot after both posted a matching 7-under 65.

Among the other Indians, Diksha Dagar (70) and Aman Raj (70) were at tied-36th. Rashid Khan, Shiv Kapur, SSP Chawrasia and Tvesa Malik, who all had a 1-under 71 on day one, were at tied-52.

Ajeetesh Sandhu shot an even-par to be placed at tied-77th. While Gaganjeet Bhullar had a rough day at work as he only managed to score 2-over 74 and was at tied-116 place after 18 holes.
