Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman team up to win Zurich Classic in New Orleans

The Australian duo Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith beat South Africans Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel in a playoff to win the Zurich Classic on Sunday at TPC Louisiana in Avondale.

The Aussies forced the playoff by shooting a 2-under 70 in alternate-shot play at the PGA Tour’s lone regular-season team event.

The South African Oosthuizen and Schwartzel, who was a shot ahead, entering the day, shot a 71 to share the final day lead but lost the game in the playoff.

Oosthuizen's tee shot on the par-5 18th on the first extra hole found the water before Smith sank the winning putt to secure his second title at the event in four years — having won his maiden PGA crown in 2017 playing with Swede Jonas Blixt.

It's Smith's third career victory, and second, at the Zurich, which he won with Jonas Blixt in 2017. That first victory also came in a playoff.

"I guess I'm good at picking good partners," Smith said. "We had such a good week on and off the golf course."

It was Leishman's sixth career victory, his best result since tying for fifth at the Masters this month, and his first win since the 2020 Farmers Insurance Open.

"I need more Australian holidays — I won on Australia Day and now Anzac Day. It's nice. Yeah, it was an awesome week, obviously," Leishman said.
