Teenage Avani outshines top pros to win the third leg of Hero WPGT

A calm and steady Avani carded 3-under 67 to claim her first title at WPGT on Friday at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club, Mumbai.

The 14-year-old Avani posted 67 on the first day, followed by 70 on day 2, and a brilliant 67 on the final day to beat the pros in the third leg of the Hero WPGT by two strokes.

The student of Laurence Brotheridgesteady, Avani, played some sensational golf in the third leg to join an elite list of amateurs who have won a pro title on the Women’s Pro Golf Tour (WPGT).

Teenage player finished her campaign at a total of six-under 204 saw her top the charts ahead of the experienced Amandeep Drall (69), who aggregated four-under 206.

Veteran Vani Kapoor (68) finished third at 208, while Seher Atwal finished at fourth place at one-under 209. The top four players had under-par totals.

Avani started her final day three shots behind overnight leader Seher, but with her brilliant game technique, she smashed an eagle, three birdies, and two bogeys in her 67.

On the other hand, Seher had a hard day with four bogeys and two doubles against three birdies in her rollercoaster 75.

Amandeep continues to lead the Hero WPGT Order of Merit with Vani and Pranavi Urs second and third.
