Seher Atwal wins her maiden pro title in the fourth leg of WPGT

The sensational young golfer Seher Atwal secured her maiden title in the fourth leg of Hero WPGT by four strokes on Friday at the Poona Golf Club, Pune.

Niece of Indian golf legend Arjun Atwal, the 22-year old Seher smashed an even-par on day 1, followed by a brilliant 4-under 67 on the second day, and on the third and the final day, she had two-over 73 to emerge triumphant by four-shots over Vani Kapoor (74) and Hitaashee Bakshi (75).

Seher, who turned pro when the Hero WPGT Tour returned to golf after the break due to Covid, was playing in only her seventh start.

"It's a big relief to get the job done. I will not lie. I was quite nervous at the start, and it was the windiest of the three days. I am glad I could hold on." said Seher.

"I came back from the US, where I was at Rollins, in March because of Covid and graduated in May. When I was in the US, I would often speak to Arjun uncle; and even played with him. With college and practice, it was not as often as I would have wanted, but yes, I was in touch with him," added Seher.

Seher started her final day as a leader by two shots managed to shot three birdies and four bogeys in her 73 on the final day to claim her first title by four strokes on WPGT.

Hero Order of Merit leader Amandeep Drall, tied-second overnight, had a rough round of 76 and slipped to Tied-4th alongside amateur Sneha Singh (73) and Jahanvi Bakshi (74) with an overall score of 3-over 216.

Ridhima Dilawari (72) and last week’s winner, amateur Avani Prashanth (73), was Tied-7th at 4-over 217.

The experienced Tvesa, who started her final round on tied-2nd position, had a rough day with seven bogeys in the first 12 holes and just one birdie on the 18th in her 78 and ended ninth.
