Jaco Van Zyl skips two majors to prepare for RIO.

Golfers have clearly not taken the Olympics very seriously in the past few weeks. Leading stars like Rory Mcllroy, Adam Scott, Shane Lowry and Jason Day have withdrawn because of the Zika virus threat. We could really end up in a scenario where top 5 golfers in the world are all absent from RIO 2016. The misfortune for golf's first appearance since 1904.

One man is taking the proceedings very seriously, though. Jaco Van Zyl of South Africa has pulled out of the British Open and PGA Championship to focus on Rio.

Jaco Phillipus van Zyl has had 15 pro wins so far and entered the top 50 of world golf rankings for the very first time in February 2016.

"I was really starting to feel the effects of a very packed schedule at the French Open last week," Van Zyl told Sport24. "This was definitely wasn't a decision I took lightly, but something had to give and I decided to forego the majors in July in favour of the Olympics.

Jaco's commitment could earn him a medal, But giving up two major appearances is a high price to pay for a relative unknown in Rio.
