BMW Championship: 7 probables to win the tournament

The 3rd Leg of FedEx cup, the BMW Championship, began on Thursday and we at Golfoy have picked 7 players who could likely win the tournament.

1. Rory McIlroy:

A new putting coach, a new putter (Scotty Cameron Newport M1 prototype) has certainly helped McIlroy revamp his golfing as he won the 2nd leg of FedEx cup, the Deutsche Bank Championship. He made a significant rise in both the World rankings and the FedEx cup rankings. He jumped to the 4th position from 34th in the FedEx cup rankings.

  2. Patrick Reed:

With a win at the Barclays and a tie for fifth last week in the Deutsche Bank Championship, Reed increased his lead in the FedEx Cup standings. With his 11 finishes in the top 10 and 16 in the top 25 this season on the PGA Tour, he has risen to No. 8 in the world.

He surely can win the BMW Championship.

3. Dustin Johnson:

With his tie for eighth in the Deutsche Bank Championship on Monday, Johnson has registered seven top-10 finishes since June, including the Win at the U.S. Open. Johnson won the BMW championship in 2010 by one stroke over Paul Casey.

He currently stands at No.3 in the FedEx cup rankings and is one of the strong contenders for the BMW Championship.

 4. Jason Day:

The World No.1 from Australia has set his stakes high after opening the FedEx Cup playoffs with a tie for fourth in The Barclays. He will be defending his title in the BMW Championship. He remains at the 2nd spot in the FedEx cup rankings and can possibly win the BMW Championship.

 5. Adam Scott:

One of only four players to finish in the top 10 in each of the first two events of the FedEx Cup playoffs, Scott enters the BMW Championship at fifth in the point standings and also is No. 6 in the world. He is making his ninth appearance in the BMW Championship and has placed in the top 10 three times.

6. Jason Kokrak:

Out of the blue Jason Kokrak from United States tied for seventh in The Barclays and tied for eighth in the Deutsche Bank Championship, one of only four players to finish in the top 10 in both tournaments. Still, that puts him only 34th in the point standings and he needs another strong finish this week in the BMW Championship to qualify for the Tour Championship.

7. Phil Mickelson:

The #Letzgolefty golfer has not yet played his best in the FedEx cup playoffs. Phil tied for 13th in The Barclays and missed the cut in the Deutsche Bank Championship. He's a virtual lock to reach the Tour Championship and a big result this week would give him a chance to win the whole thing at East Lake in Atlanta.

Mickelson is making his 14th start in the BMW Championship and his best result was a tie for second in 2012.
