Aditi Ashok qualifies for her second successive Olympics

India’s Aditi Ashok is all set to make her second consecutive appearance at the Olympics next month after finishing 45th on the qualifying list released on Tuesday.

Aditi, the top-ranked Indian woman golfer, easily qualifies for the Tokyo Olympics, as she was among the first list of 60 players, same as Anirban Lahiri.

"I still think of Rio 2016 like it was only yesterday. To have the honour of playing for India is beyond exciting. I am privileged to have the opportunity to represent my country and my sport at the Games again," the golfer tweeted.

With the confirmation of Aditi’s qualification, now we have three golfers to represent India in Tokyo Olympics. Anirban and Udayan in Men’s field, while Aditi Ashok in the women’s section.

Anirban was the first Indian to qualify for the Olympics, followed by Udayan Mane.

Mane made the cut following the withdrawal of Emiliano Grillo of Argentina. His entry will be confirmed on July 6 by the IGF.

Another Indian who can still qualify for the Olympics is Diksha Dagar, who is in the fifth reserve but will need solid luck and will depend upon several withdrawals to make the cut.

Diksha, who trailed Tvesa Malik till last week, overtook the latter with a tied-fourth finish at an event in the Czech Republic.

The Olympic golf competition for men will be held at the Kasumigaseki Country Club from July 29 to August 2, while the women will play at the same course a week later, from August 4 to 7. It will be a four-round 72-hole affair with no cuts for the starters.
