Yuvraj Singh Sandhu showed his class on the final day and carded a solid 3-under 69 to win the Players Championship by a single shot.
The local lad Sandhu kept his cool on the fourth & final day to register his third win on the PGTI and maintained his second position on the PGTI Order of Merit table.
Md. Zamal (67-66-69-70), the overnight co-leader, gave a tough fight to Yuvraj all day and needed a birdie on the 18th to force a playoff, but he settled for a par and finished second.
To win, Yuvraj was required to hit the ball inside the hole from 1-foot range, which he accomplished with ease for his second win in a month.
The 25-year-old Yuvraj smashed five birdies against two bogeys to score 3-under for the day to win the prestigious PGTI event.
Sandhu, who started the tournament with a decent 2-under 70, struck twenty-two birdies against just five bogeys in his four-day journey at the windy Chandigarh Golf Club.
With this win, the Chandigarh golfer will earn five OWGR points that will help him to make a big jump at the Official World Golf Rankings.
Another local boy, Karandeep Kochhar, who won the last year’s Players Championship, fired a blistering 7-under 65 in the final round to finish his run at the solo-third position.
Karandeep shot an eventful 65 with no bogeys, but it was on the back nine that he worked his magic, making five birdies to end his Players Championship campaign on a high note.
Kartik Sharma had a mixed day at work, as he only managed to post an even-par 72 to finish in fourth place with a four-day total of 13-under 275.
