Sam Burns wins Sanderson Links Championship by a single shot

Sam Burns produced a solid 5-under 67 in the final round of Sanderson farms to win the event by one shot on Sunday.

Burns, who shot 4-under in the first round, fired two consecutive bogey-free rounds (2&3), and after 5-under in the final round, he finished at a total of 22-under 266.

The 5-time PGA Tour champion Nick Watney carded a spectacular 7-under in the last round to rose from overnight 10th to finish tied-2nd at the prize money event.

Cameron Young, 24, who started the final round tied for second with Burns, finished at the same spot after carding a 4-under 68.

Burns, who won the Valspar Championship in May earlier this year, made 25 birdies against just three bogeys in his four days campaign at the country club of Jackson to grab his second PGA Tour title.

Sahith Theegala, who was the overnight leader by a single shot, only managed to post 1-under 71 in the fourth round to ruin his chances of winning his maiden PGA tour title.

Cameron Triangle also recorded 1-under 71 in the final round to tie for 11th place with Harold Varner III, the 2016 Australian PGA Championship winner, and C.T. Pan, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist.

Sergio, who won the Sanderson Farms in 2020, made an early exit from this year’s event after carding 4-under to miss the cut.

Other notable players who missed the cut include Lanto griffin, Gary Woodland, Brendon Todd, Sepp Straka, and Matt Wallace.
