Sahith Theegala builds two shot lead at halfway stage, Anirban misses out

The Indian-American Sahith Theegala maintained his top spot with a blistering 7-under 64 in the the second round of Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Theegala, who expressed his intentions to play in India someday, added 64 to his opening round 66 to build a the two-shot advantage over the golf giants Brooks Koepka and Xander Schauffele.

4-time major champion Brooks Koepka matched his 5-under 66 with another 66 on Friday to share tied-2nd spot with 2020 Tokyo Olympics golf medallist Xander Schauffele.

The man in form Patrick Cantlay continued his impressive run on tour with another solid 5-under 66 after his the first day 4-under 67 to grab solo fourth heading into the weekend. Three golfers, including 2020 Fortinet Championship winner Max Homa, were at tied-5th.

Anirban Lahiri, the only Indian in the star-studded field, needed a 72 or better in the second round to make the cut but he shot a dreary 4-over 75 that dented his chances to book a berth for the weekend action as with two days total of 3-over 145, he missed the cut.

The other big names including Sam Burns, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, Seamus Power, Gary Woodland, Tony Finau, Daniel Berger, and Lucas Herbert also missed the cut.
