Bubba Watson’s wish was granted ahead of the 2016 Ryder Cup.
Watson said last week at the Tour Championship he wanted to be part of the team no matter what.
Bubba Watson expressed his disappointment when Ryan Moore was selected for the final United States captain’s pick, but on Monday, Watson was named a vice captain for the U.S team by captain Davis Love III.
“We all want to be a part of the team,” said Watson. “Like I said in an interview yesterday, I want to be a part of the team. I sent him a text that said, ‘Can I be assistant captain if you don’t pick me?’ So I put it out there. I want to be a part of the team no matter what. There’s going to be one year, hopefully before I pass away, that we actually win, and I want to be a part of it.”
The 37-year-old Watson is a three-time Ryder Cup veteran (2010, ’12, and ’14) that played for Love during the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah, finishing 2-2-0.
This is Watson’s first time as a Vice Captain. The two-time Masters Champion joins fellow United States Vice Captains Jim Furyk, Tom Lehman, Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods, each of whom was appointed by Love last year.
Ryder Cup 2016 will take place from Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at Hazeltine National Golf Club.Posted on:
