Shubhankar starts with a decent 70, lies T-32 at Wales Open

Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma got off to a decent start at the Wales Open as he brought home a card of one-under 70 to lie T-32rd at the twenty-ten course.

Shubhankar made three birdies against two bogeys to remain inside a respectable pack of golfers at the European Tour’s €1,250,000 prize money event.

Vincent Norrman and Nacho Elvira share the lead at seven-under after the first round of the Cazoo Wales Open.

Sweden’s Norrman carded a flawless 64 with the help of seven birdies, while Elvira had an entertaining round with seven birdies, one eagle against two bogeys and one double bogey.

Shubhankar Sharma is now aiming for a solid second round to keep his chances alive to add a third European Tour title in his bag of achievements.

Gaganjeet Bhullar (74) and Ajeetesh Sandhu (73), the other two Indians competing in the event, began with dismal rounds in the United Kingdom.

The 2019 Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational champion Ajeetesh Sandhu made three bogeys and just one birdie, while Gaganjeet Bhullar shot one extra bogey than the fellow golfer to stay outside top-90 after the first-day competition.

England’s James Morrison carded 5-under 66 to share the berth behind leaders with Finland’s Mikko Korhonen.

Another Englishmen, Matt Wallace, was in the club at 4-under alongside three more Englishmen, Sam Horsfield, Robert Rock and Jordan Wrisdale.
