Shubhankar Sharma cards a modest 71 to make the cut at Wales Open

Shubhankar Sharma shot an even-par 71 in the second round to make the cut at the Wales Open on Friday.

Sharma, who shot 70 in the opening round, added 71 yesterday to get to 1-under as the cut fall at 1-under after 36 holes.

The 25-year-old Sharma smashed four birdies in his second round, but two bogeys and one double-bogey placed him at the tied-21st position after the midway stage of the European Tour event.

Spanish golfer Nacho Elvira carded 4-under 67 in the second round to hold the round lead at the twenty-ten course.

The four-time champion on the challenge tour Nacho Elvira, who shot a brilliant 64 on day one, made five birdies against two bogeys to maintain his top position at the European Tour’s €1,250,000 prize money event.

Vincent Norman, the joint-leader after 18 holes, only managed to add 69 on day two and slipped to the second position.

The two other Indians, Gaganjeet Bhullar and Ajeetesh Sandhu made an early exit from the tournament after stressful two days in Wales.

Ajeetesh Sandhu, who posted 2-over 73 in the first round, carded an even worse 5-over 76 in the next 18 holes to miss the cut by a significant margin.

On the other hand, Gaganjeet Bhullar shot 150 in two days to miss the weekend action by nine strokes.

Masahiro Kawamura of Japan grabbed the solo-third position after carding a blistering 8-under 63.
