Shubhankar Sharma aims for a better show at the Italian Open

Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma will hope for a better showing in the Italian Open starting on Thursday after having a not so pleasant finish at last week's European Masters Open.

The 25-year-old Shubhankar has made thirteen cuts in 21 events this season, with tied-8th at the Made in HimmerLand being his best finish in the current season of the European Tour.

After having a string of mixed outcomes, the 2018 Asian Tour Order of Merit champion is looking to break his winless skid soon.

He has two European Tour wins under his belt and is looking to add more to his trophy cabinet. The last European Tour event he won was at Malaysia in Maybank Championship in 2018.

Shubhanakar will play his first two rounds alongside Oliver Fisher, George Coetzee at Marco Simone Golf Club in Italy.

The tournament will feature 156 golfers, with Guido Migliozzi, Henrik Stenson, and Bernd Wiesberger tee off the tournament as the most prolific group.

Bernd Wiesberger, who won this event in 2019, will start as a favourite to win the star-studded €3,000,000 prize money event.

The field includes some of the big names like Tommy Fleetwood, Henrik Stenson, Matt Fitzpatrick, Victor Perez, Matt Wallace, Johannes Veerman, Calum Hill and Grant Forrest, to name a few.
