Rory McIlroy wins the PGA Tour Player of Year Award

Rory McIlroy overshadowed Brooks Koepka to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year for the third time in his career.

Apart from Rory and Brooks. Matt Kuchar and Xander Schauffele were the other two golfers, who have been shortlisted for the Jack Nicklaus Player of the Award. But, it was supposed to be a two-man race between McIlroy and Koepka. Although Rory claims the Jack Nicklaus Award as voted upon by his peers.

While the Tour does not release vote totals and announced McIlroy as the winner of the PGA Tour Player of the year 2018-19. But, these results surprised some persons, as McIlroy did not claim a major title. While Koepka won the PGA Championship and remains the top-ranked player in the world.

McIlroy had a decent last season, in which he won the Players Championship (Mar 19), Canadian Open (June 19), and the Tour Championship (Aug 19).

Rory finished tied-fourth and tied-19th in the opening two FedEx Cup play-off events to head to East Lake fifth in the standings. Where he smashed a four-shot win over Koepka to win the FedEx Cup for the second time in his career.

He also had a 14 top 10 finishes, and only four times he remained out of Top 20 in the 19 tournaments he played.

On the other side, Brooks, who two weeks ago named as the PGA of America Player of the Year played well throughout the year. He won the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black, WGC-FedEx St. Jude and the C.J. Cup at Nine Bridges. He also, finished as runner-up at both the Masters and the U.S. Open.

Koepka is only the fifth golfer to finish in the top five in all the majors in one season. He joins the list with Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler, and Jordan Spieth, who were the previous four.

Now, Rory has 3 Jack Nicklaus Player of the Award in his bag, the previous two he has won in the year 2012, and 2014.
