Luke List beats Zalatoris to claim maiden PGA Tour title

Luke List won his first PGA Tour championship with a remarkable birdie on the first playoff hole at Torrey Pines.

On the final day, List shot a 6-under 66 to climb up the leadership and join Will Zalatoris on 15 under par, extending the contest to extra holes.

Zalatoris, who started the final day as hot favourite to win the tournament, posted a 1-under 71 in the final round but lost in a playoff.

The 2021 Masters runner-up Zalatoris missed the chance to secure his first career victory when he barely missed an 8-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th, forcing a playoff.

List in his 206th game smashed seven birdies, including a 13-footer for the clubhouse lead at the 18th on the final day.

World No.1 Jon Rahm, along with Day and Cameron Tringale, ended their run a shot back at 14-under, while the English golfers Aaron Rai and Justin Rose were in a group of five players two shots back.

The only Indian in the field, Anirban Lahiri, who was playing his second tournament of 2022, completed his campaign at the tied-46th place after carding 5-under 283 in four days.
