Indian golfers shine at Canary Islands Championship

Indian golfer Ajeetesh Sandhu carded a splendid bogey-free 65 that ensured him a place in the weekend rounds of the Canary Islands Championship at the Golf Costa Adeje, Spain.

Sandhu, who began his day at even-par for 18 holes, moved to six-under 136 at the halfway stage.

Sandhu is eight shots behind leader Adri Arnaus, who shot a 64 and to take the top spot at 14-under. Sandhu, who has not won since the Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational in 2019, is on a roll. He made six birdies in his focused round of 6-under.

Gaganjeet Bhullar tied for 46th place after shooting 4-under in the second round at the event.

The veteran SSP Chawrasia shot another 3-under to share the tied-46th position with its fellow Indians.

Gran Canaria Lopesan Open champion Higgo was one shot behind the leader Arnaus. Higgo shot a brilliant 8-under 63 to claim the solo second spot at the middle stage of the European Tour event.

A group of four players was another shot back, including first-round leader Francesco Laporta, who followed his nine-under 62 with a 68.

Shubhankar Sharma, who was the best-placed Indian after day 1, carded an even-par round to slip down at the leaderboard but made the cut.

Shiv Kapur shot even par for the day and made the cut with a 2-under 140 halfway total.
