Indian Golf Union recommends Shubhankar Sharma for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award

Shubhankar Sharma, one of India's brightest talents and a two-time European Tour champion, has been nominated for the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award by the Indian Golf Union.

For Arjuna Award, the governing body of golf in India has proposed the names of Udayan Mane, Rashid Khan and Diksha Dagar.

"We sent the letter to the ministry a couple of weeks back, nominating Udayan Mane, Rashid Khan and Diksha Dagar for Arjuna and Shubhankar Sharma for the Khel Ratna," an IGU official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The 24-year-old Shubhankar began his professional journey in 2013 and has since won eight professional titles in his illustrious career, two on European Tour and six on PGTI.

Before becoming a sensation on the European Tour, Sharma was already a star in his junior career. He won the All India Amateur Championship at the age of 16.

He has also represented the country in five Majors, Masters, US Open, The Open Championship (2) and the PGA Championship.

Indian Golf Union proposes Udayan Mane, Rashid Khan and Diksha Dagar for Arjuna Award

Udayan Mane, the second-highest ranked Indian golfer in OWGR, has been nominated for Arjuna Award alongwith Rashid Khan and Diksha Dagar.

Mane recently made the cut for the Tokyo Olympics after Emiliano Grillo of Argentina pulled himself out of the event.

Three-time PGTI Order of Merit winner Rashid Khan is the most consistent and celebrated golfer in India. He was the best-placed Indian golfer in the OWGR at the 180th spot before COVID-19 stopped the tournaments.

Diksha Dagar won the silver medal in the Women's golf event in 2017, where she became the first Indian to claim a Deaflympic medal in the sport of golf.

She is one of India's top female golfers, having earned the card to compete on foreign professional tours.

Last year, Aditi Ashok, the highest-ranked Indian woman in the world, received the Arjun Award.
