Hudson Swafford secures third PGA Tour title with victory at The American Express

Hudson Swafford smashed a blistering 8-under-par 64 in the final round of The American Express to grab his third PGA Tour victory on Sunday.

Swafford finished the PGA Tour’s third event of 2022 at 23-under to claim a two-shot win over the third-round Lee Hodges at the La Quinta Country Club in California.

The 34-year-old Burns, who shot a 23-under 265 for the tournament, had a splendid final round, in which he struck nine birdies against three bogeys to claim a second American Express trophy.

Tom Hoge, who remained in contention for the first days, had a merely good round of 4-under 68 to finish the event at 21-under 267, two shots off the winner.

Will Zalatoris, the runner-up in the 2021 Masters, finished a further shot back at tied for sixth place with two other players.

The only Indian playing in the event, Anirban Lahiri (69-67-72-75), who played a solid game of golf on the first two days, lost his track in the third and fourth round to finish his first event of 2022 at solo 66th position.

First two rounds leader Patrick Cantlay also witnessed some errors on the third day to slip out from the competition, and with a 4-under 68 on the final day, he completed his run at ninth place.
