Collin Morikawa rallies in final round to win 2021 DP World Tour Championship

World No. 2 Collin Morikawa won his first European Tour Championship title after shooting a solid 6-under 66 in the final round on Sunday at the Jumeirah Golf Estates.
Morikawa, who won the fourth and last major of the 2021 PGA Tour season, fired 17-under in four days to grab his sixth professional and fourth European Tour title by three strokes.
Matt Fitzpatrick of England was disappointed with himself as even after shooting a breath-taking 6-under 66 in the final round, he missed the chance of winning his eighth European Tour title.
Fitzpatrick was going neck-to-neck with Collin till the fifteenth hole, as the former sunk six birdies to match the latter on 15-under. However, back-to-back bogeys on 16th and 17th holes leave Fitzpatrick way behind Morikawa, who made birdies on the final two holes to beat the Englishman by three strokes.

Swedish golfer Alexander Bjork, who was at 12-under before the start of the final round, didn’t manage to score much low and carded a decent 2-under 70 to share the tied-2nd position with Matt Fitzpatrick.
2021 Italian Open champion Nicolai Hojgaard, who posted 13-under 275 in four days, shared the tied-4th spot alongside Scotland’s Robert McIntyre.
Pre-tournament favourite and the leader after round 3, Rory McIlroy, had a disastrous final round of 2-over 74 to be tied-6th. He also ripped his shirt in frustration just after finishing his campaign at the €7,661,925 prize money event.
With this impressive win, Morikawa also grabbed the Race to Dubai title for the first time as the leading point’s scorer on the European Tour in the 2021 season.
