Cameron Champ tests positive for Covid-19, withdraws from Sentry Tournament of Champions
Cameron Champ has withdrawn from the first event of 2022 after testing positive for the dangerous COVID-19.
The 26-year-old Champ qualified for the winners-only event after securing the 3M Open title in July last summer. The 3-time PGA Tour winner in that event scored 15-under 269 in his four-day campaign to grab the title by two shots.
After the withdrawal of Champ, the field is now of 38 players.
Champ was at home when he was tested positive, and his management team called it a "breakthrough case" and stated he was fine.
“Champ is naturally quite disappointed not to be able to return to Maui, said his team.’’ Thankfully, however, he feels good, and we were able to confirm his breakthrough whilst he was still at home in Houston.”
In the previous three outings at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, the young Champ finished at T-31, T-14, and T-11, respectively.
