Angad Cheema, Ankur Chadha part of five-way tie for lead at ICC RCGC Championship

Angad Cheema and Ankur Chadha, along with three others shot scores four-under 68 to enjoy the first-round lead at the historic Royal Calcutta Golf Club.

Panchkula’s Angad Cheema started his round with a birdie and then shot four more birdies against a single bogey in his whole round to score 4-under 68.

While Gurugram’s Ankur Chadha, who was rock solid and was 6-under thru 14 holes made two errors, first on the fifteenth, then on the final hole to settle at 4-under.

The veterans Mari Muthu and Harendra Gupta found themselves at the top of the pack with the former firing an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys and the latter returning a bogey-free round with four birdies to his credit.

Harendra Gupta of Chandigarh has had a promising run since the resumption of the tour in September has posted two top-10s and two other top-20s.

Vikrant Chopra also ended his first day at tied for first place courtesy of his six birdies against two bogeys.

On a high scoring competitive, the leading quintet was one shot ahead of six players bunched in tied sixth at three-under 69, which included local lad Akram Ali Mollah of Kolkata, Gurugram’s Tapy Ghai, Sri Lankan Anura Rohana, Yuvraj Singh Sandhu of Chandigarh, Delhi’s Kshitij Naveed Kaul and Jamshedpur’s Kurush Heerjee.

Last week’s champion Yuvraj Singh Sandhu again made a solid start to lie tied-6th. While the defending champion Mithun Perera of Sri Lanka carded a one-over 73 to be tied 42nd
