Indian golfer Aditi Ashok got off to a decent start with an even-par 72 and was lying tied-65th after the first round of the Marathon Classic.
Aditi smashed two birdies against two bogeys in her modest first round to stay inside top-65 after the end of day one competition at the Highland Meadows Golf Club, Sylvania, Ohio.
Nasa Hataoka of Japan carded a super-spectacular 10-under 71 to claim the first-round lead by four strokes at the LPGA Tour’s $2,000,000 prize money event.
Aditi, the lone female golfer representing India at the Olympics next month, has made seven cuts in nine events she played this year on the LPGA Tour. Her best finish was a tie for 23rd at the LPGA Drive on Championship in March.
Aditi is seeking her maiden win on the LPGA Tour as her last worldwide triumph was at Ladies European Tour in the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in 2017.
Nasa Hataoka made her 10th birdie on the 16th hole and started thinking to finish the day at 59 to become the second LPGA player to shoot 59. But, par-par shots halted her dream to match Annika Sorenstam’s 59.
Annika Sorenstam is the only golfer to shoot 59 on the LPGA Tour; she achieved this feat in 2001 at the Standard Register PING tournament at Moon Valley in Arizona.
Lauren Stephenson grabbed the second sport after carding 6-under 65, she also had a chance to go lower on her final two holes, but the young golfer only managed to hit par-par to remain four strokes off the lead.
Mina Hargai was another stroke back at 66 and shared the tied-3rd position with four other players after the end of day one campaign.
