Aditi Ashok all set to compete for richest purse in women's golf at British Open

Aditi Ashok is all set to compete in the richest prize purse event in women's history when she tees up at the AIG Women's Open at Carnoustie on Thursday.

Aditi, who is a regular on the LPGA tour, is all charged up to make the most out of playing in the Women's major championship.

The Women's Open is recognised by both the LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour as a major. This year, the LPGA also upped the prize pool by $1.3 million, making the Women's Open the highest-paying women's golf tournament in the world.

The 23-year-old also holds the record of playing most majors by an Indian, and now she is ready to take part in her 19th. The second Indian behind her who played most majors is Anirban Lahiri (16).

Aditi has been in decent form this year as she made eight cuts in twelve games, and her best finish was a tie for 5th at the LPGA Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational in July.

She is seeking her maiden win on the LPGA Tour as her last worldwide title was at Ladies European Tour in the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in 2017.

Aditi starts her Women's Open campaign with American Brittany Altomare and Korea's Sung Hyun Park at 10:30 pm IST on Thursday.

The tournament features some of the top female golf professionals, including the World No.1 and Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Nelly Korda.
