Karandeep Kochhar fires electrifying 64 to grab first-round lead at Gujar
Karandeep Kochhar carded an electrifying 8-under 64 to grab the first-round lead at the Gujarat Open Golf Championship on Tuesday.
The Chandigarh lad played a brilliant game of golf on the first day of the first event of the 2022 season to claim a one-shot lead heading into the second round at the Rs. 40 Lakh prize money event being played at the Kalhaar Blues & Greens, Ahmedabad.
Mysore Golfer Yashas Chandra Ms also made a good start in the season opener with 7-under 65 to sit just one shot off the leader at second position.
Three golfers, including the veteran Om Prakash Chouhan and the young guns Tapy Ghai of Gurugram and Jaipur’s Prakhar Asawa, were tied for third place at 6-under 66.

The 2020 Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational winner Karandeep Kochhar started his campaign with a bogey on the par-4 first hole, but the 22-year-old kept his cool and smashed eight birdies and nine pars in his remaining 17 holes game to emerge as the leader after round one.
Yashas Chandra MS also mixed eight birdies against just one bogey to remain in contention.
Sunit Chowrasia, the nephew of great Indian golfer SSP Chawrasia, got off to a shaky start, finishing the first nine holes at 3-over 39. But he recovered on the back-nine, shooting seven birdies without making any errors to finish tied for sixth place.
Joining Sunit at 6th were Yuvraj Singh Sandhu, Jairaj Singh Sandhu, Kapil Kumar and Sachin Baisoya.
The experienced Udayan Mane had a disappointing start as he carded 7-over 79 to be at tied-98th.
