Collin Morikawa grabs the Claret Jug on Open Championship debut

American golfer Collin Morikawa posted a flawless 4-under 66 in the final round to grab the Claret Jug on his Open Championship debut.

The 24-year-old golfer had rounds of 67,64,68,66 to finish the event at an overall score of 15-under 265 at St. George’s.

This was Morikawa’s second major, having won the PGA Championship last year.

"This is one of the best moments of my life," said Morikawa. "Look at all these fans. To see some of the best crowds I have ever seen, I'm looking forward to making my trip every year."

After a hard-working week in England, Morikawa became just the second golfer in 95 years to win twice in his first eight career majors, joining Bobby Jones.

The seat behind the leader was grabbed by the veteran Jordan Spieth, who ended his campaign at 13-under 267 after carding 4-under in the fourth and final major golf tournament of this season.

2021 PGA championship winner Jon Rahm shot birdies in four of his last six holes to end his The Open journey at the tied-3rd position and also reclaimed his World No. 1 golfer position.

The 38-year-old South African golfer Louis Oosthuizen once again missed out to win the major despite leading the event in multiple rounds. Oosthuizen had a bad final day of 1-over 71 to finish the tournament at the tied-3rd spot.

Another South African, Dylan Frittelli, took the solo fifth place with an overall score of 9-under 271.

The four-time major champion Brooks Koepka ended at the tied-6th position despite smashing a solid 5-under in the final round of the prestigious golf event.
