Cameron Smith shoots 9-under 64 to maintain lead at halfway stage of sentry Tournament of Champions

Overnight leader Cameron Smith opened up a three-stroke lead at the halfway stage of the Sentry tournament of champions, carding 64 in the second round on Friday to go 17-under overall at the K Kapalua Plantation course in Maui.

After carding a blistering 8-under 65 on Thursday to set the pace at the first competitive event of 2022, the Australian golfer Smith posted another breathtaking round at the winner-only Rs. $8,200,000 prize money PGA Tour event.

28-year old Smith started his second-day campaign with two back-to-back bogeys, followed by two consecutive pars, but on the fifth hole, he shot an eagle that gave him confidence, and after that, he didn’t make any errors; and smashed nine birdies to finish his day at 9-under.

Jon Rahm, Daniel Berger and Patrick Cantlay

Jon Rahm and Daniel Berger, who were tied for second after the first round, maintained their position after each shooting a 7-under 66 to reach 14-under 132 at the halfway mark.

Patrick Cantlay, on the other hand, after shooting 6-under 67, slipped to solo fourth going into weekend action.Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth, who both carded the same 2-under 71 in the first round, once again produced a matching 4-under 69 to share tied-30th spot.

Sam Burns, who shot a decent 1-under the other day, produced a superb 9-under to climb up to the tied-8th position. Joining him at eight were Brooks Koepka (68), Marc Leishman (67), Stewart Cink (67), Xander Schauffele (67), Seamus Power (67), and Si Woo Kim (65).
