Anirban Lahiri in top-15 after strong opening round at Northern Trust

Anirban Lahiri had a wonderful day at the Liberty National as he managed to claim a place inside top-15 after the first day of the Northern Trust, the first event of the playoff system for the FedEx Cup.

The top-ranked Indian golfer Lahiri carded a stress-free 2-under 69 in the opening round to make himself ready for the upcoming challenges at the FedEx Cup playoffs.

After completing the regular 2020-21 season at 121st position, Lahiri qualified for the northern trust.

And with his first-day position at tied-15th, he is currently projected at 90th spot in the FedEx Cup standings.

Although he needs to play solid golf throughout the northern trust event to qualify for the BMW Championship, the second event of the playoff system for the FedEx Cup, as only the top-70 players after the Northern Trust will advance for the BMW Championship.

World No. 1 Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas shared the first-round lead after smashing a spectacular 8-under 63 at the Liberty National.

Rahm played a flawless round, and with the help of eighth birdies, he allows himself to lie on top. Whereas; Thomas made nine birdies against a single bogey to join Rahm at the top.

Harold Varner took the solo-third position with 5-under 66.

A group of six golfers were four shots back of the leaders and tied for a fourth place going into the second round.
