Ace Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri carded a solid seven-under 65 in the final round to finish a creditable tied-3rd at the Barbasol Championship on Sunday.
The top-ranked Indian golfer, made eight birdies against one bogey to claim his season-best finish at the PGA Tour.
Lahiri ended with a total of 20-under 268 with rounds of 68,67,68,65 at the $3,500,000 prize money event.
“To finish like that was really important just with my rankings on the FedEx. I’m not playing next week as I am off to Tokyo, so I wanted to make sure that I get the most out of this week. I’ve done whatever I could under the circumstances." said Lahiri
Seamus Power won the Barbasol Championship title for his first PGA Tour victory, beating J.T. Poston with a tap-in par on the sixth hole of a playoff at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
With the Tokyo Olympics round the corner, the 34-year-old Lahiri is making all the right noises before he heads for the quadrennial event.
“I made a lot of birdies this week and that is something that you definitely need to do to win golf tournaments. I don’t know anything about the golf course in Japan, but I will obviously have to shoot really low numbers there and I need this mentality," said Lahiri.
“I’m really excited. It’s exciting to be wearing the Tricolor. It’s always a really, really special thing to represent India. Every opportunity that I get, I’m going to grab it with both hands, and hopefully I can go with this form to Tokyo and do some damage."
Three-star golfers will represent India's golf contingent at the Olympics.
While Anirban Lahiri and Udayan Mane have qualified for the men's golf tournaments, Aditi Ashok is poised to lead India's charge in the women's circle.
The men's Olympic golf competition will take place at Kasumigaseki Country Club from July 29 to August 2, while the women's competition will commence a week later, from August 4 to 7. It will be a four-round 72-hole affair with no cuts for the starters.Posted on: 2021 Jul 19 Mon
